Human Resources Department
General Internships
A limited number of paid lodging internships are available for
US and international J-1 visa interns who are planning to become
professionals in the hospitality industry. A stay of 48 WEEKS or
LONGER is required. Interns will gain valuable experience in hotel
and resort operations.
Skills and knowledge gained include:
- Guest services skills through intensive training and mentoring
- Front office management skills
- Computer skills in integrated lodging management system
- Property management skills including inspection, housekeeping and maintenance
Methods for on-the-job training:
- Orientation to company and community
- Group and individual training on company computer and communications systems
- Seminars and formal training classes
- Observation of coworkers, managers and supervisors
- Departmental and Divisional Meetings for communications and training
- Feedback from secret shopping reports
- Mentoring by professionals in Lodging and Hospitality
- Rotation through multiple Lodging and Hospitality departments
- Individual and team projects, research, and surveys
Areas of concentration include:
- Reception/Front desk for 400 rental homes and villas
- Butler/ Front desk for AAA Four Diamond, Mobil Four Star Hotel
- Concierge/Bell staff
- Night Auditor/Manager-on-duty
- Property Management in owner services department
Summer Recreation Internships
Recreation Internships are offered between May and September.
Applicants must submit a complete resume listing all previous work experience.
Please include a cover letter containing the following: desired internship dates;
home and school address; home and school telephone number;
three references with telephone numbers (include an academic advisor and two employers.)
The intern will be exposed to and be responsible
for a variety of duties relating to the Fitness, Recreation, and bike shop department;
duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Responsible for full knowledge of The Sea Pines Resorts facilities and amenities, as well as knowledge of Hilton Head Island, for guest informational purposes
- Responsible for leading and assisting with various recreational activities including: outdoor programs, Craft Cove activities, teen activities, family activities, and corporate recreation and team building activities
- Assist with various administrative duties related to the Fitness Center, Recreational Activities, Facility Maintenance, and other areas of the department
- Responsible for continuous training on computer skills, customer service techniques, and services available to guests
- Responsible for cross-training in the Bicycle Shop and Facilities Maintenance
Requirements
Interns should be working towards a degree in recreation or similar field and possess
good organizational, implementation, motivational, social, and leadership skills.
We are looking for interns who are self-motivated, friendly, flexible, and willing
to contribute their best efforts at all times. Current certification in CPR and
First-Aid are preferred. Additional certifications in aerobics, personal training,
or water safety will be an additional benefit.
