HORSEBACK RIDING - Lawton Stables offers one hour guided western-style trail rides on our gentle horses several times daily. These rides are available to adults and children 8 years and older. The guides take you into the 603-acre Sea Pines Forest Preserve located just across from Lawton Stables where you will experience a true feel of the untouched Lowcountry on horseback. Trails wind at a leisurely pace beneath a canopy of Palmettos and moss covered oaks and is suitable even for novice riders.
Depending on the time of your visit, you might be able to enjoy the spectacular wild flower meadow in full bloom by Lake Thomas, or herons nesting by the thousands on the shores. The wildlife in the Preserve is renowned and you will probably pass alligators basking in the fishing lakes or sunning themselves on the banks. Ornithologists come from all around to view the birdlife in and around Lakes Mary, Thomas and Joe. Our friendly guides keep an eye on the horses as they give insight into Island culture and wildlife and try to answer the many questions you will no doubt have. The pace on the ride is kept at walk so that riders of all abilities can settle in comfortably and take in the beautiful, tranquil surroundings. Make this one of your "must do's" during your stay with us on Hilton Head Island. Our low season schedule has three rides per day, seven days per week, at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 3 p.m. The rate is $50 per person in the low season. The spring and holiday schedule offers four rides per day, and the summer schedule offers five rides per day, seven days per week. The rate is $60 per person for spring, holiday and summer seasons.
ANIMAL FARM - Bring all the family to visit our small animal farm which is free to all visitors. We have a wonderful collection of small animals, including goats, sheep, donkeys, a pot-bellied pig, llama, miniature pony, and baby rabbits. Come and meet these delightful animals yourselves.
CELEBRATE A BIRTHDAY AT LAWTON! Our pony birthday parties at Lawton Stables are a real success with the younger children. You supply the food, and we supply the fun! We cover one or more of our picnic tables with a cloth and put up a birthday banner to set the scene for the birthday celebration. The parties usually last for 1 1/2 hours. During that time, the pony helpers lead the ponies for whoever wants to ride, and they help the birthday boy or girl and their guests to have fun doing this. During the birthday celebrations, the children will have yet more fun visiting our small animal farm. CARRIAGE RIDES IN THE SEA PINES NATURE PRESERVE Come meet Harley! A seven-year old Clydesdale who has had his fun pulling Budweiser carriages but is now our special carriage horse. Harley is a gentle giant, standing at 18.2 hands. Carriage rides last one hour, and you stroll into the Sea Pines Nature Preserve on a wagon-carriage that can seat five or six riders. The ride is $175 for the first hour, and $125 for each additional hour.
PONY RIDES - Our adorable, friendly ponies are here at Lawton to provide pony rides for children 7 and under. Parents who came to Lawton for pony rides when they were young children are now bringing their own children for the same fun experience! The ponies are led a couple of times around our small animal farm, just long enough to entertain the young children. After their ride, they can go into the animal farm to make more friends. As a special treat, why not organize a pony party? Pony rides are available from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Pony rides are $10 per child for 2 laps and additional 2 laps for one child is $5.
 LESSONS & INSTRUCTION - We offer English riding lessons for all ages and levels. Our head trainer, Allison Campbell, will be pleased to welcome you and show you the amenities we have to offer. We also have an instructor for beginning pupils as young as four years old. We have recently completed the construction of two championship arenas. Our talented and highly experienced staff will lead you through the stages to achieve your equestrian goals. For advanced riders, we offer a Riding Academy which consists of intense riding every day with two lessons daily, six days per week, training and instruction, as well as barn management. Western riding lessons and beginning dressage lessons are also available.
SUMMER RIDING CAMP - Weekly camp sessions are offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day for children ages 8-14. If your child is under 8 we ask that he or she have prior equestrian experience or be especially interested in learning to ride.
The camp is designed for riders of all levels. There will be daily formal riding instruction, and we will be teaching horsemanship skills ranging from barn management to anatomy and the fundamentals of shoeing a horse. The camp emphasizes horsemanship and riding skills plus daily added fun activities. There will be a horse show at 10 a.m. on Fridays for parents and friends to attend. Instruction will primarily be English riding, but there will be an element of Western and also trail riding into the Sea Pines Nature Preserve.
The weekly fee is $310. Daily sessions may be arranged if there is availability. A $100 non-refundable deposit must be made to reserve your session, and a discount of $30 is available for any additional weekly sessions. If you are interested in bringing your own horse or pony, there will be an additional $100 camp fee. Siblings receive a $15 discount if taking the camp at the same time as their sibling.

GIFT STORE - Lawton Stables has a collection of horse and farmed-themed gifts as well as t-shirts and sweatshirts for children and adults. Only top quality toys are sold, with the largest collection of Breyer horses and accessories in the area, as well as wonderful wooden Melissa and Doug toys and puzzles. The gift store is open 7 days a week, 364 days per year (closed Christmas Day). We also have a Christmas selection, including Breyer Christmas ornaments and horse-themed stockings.
